Greyhound Derby Wimbledon Saturday June 9

8.00-Heat 22
Trap 5 Meenala Cruiser WON 1/3
Trap 6 Schofield Star

* Superstar performance at Sunderland when cruising around the turns in puppy final.
One of the best bend running performances of the year in my book.
The 2-y-o  son of Droopys Woods has a  big chance to shine against modest rivals and is set to sweep home  by four or  five lengths.

8.15-Heat 23
Trap 6 Alibulk Rocket
Trap 5 Westmead Lord
Trap 1 Ullid Connor WON 4/1

*Two fine greyhounds drawn side by side in this one. Alibulk Rocket just gets the nod on his six draw. The Yarmouth Derby second has performed well in the build up to the competition scoring in 28.67sec in a trials stakes (480m  Wimbledon) whilst his 27.62sec trial work out (460m Wimbledon) has also  been noted.
When we think of the Westmead prefix we automatically think slow starter middle pace stamina stamina and more stamina.
However Westmead Lord is the exception to the Savva rule. The 2-y-o son of Droopys Kewell blitz from the traps posting 4.86sec to the line when beating Journey North last time in a pleasing 28.77sec. He seems to be coming to himself just at the right time. Irish stayer Ullid Conor is respected after a fantastic performance  in the Anglo/Irish event at Sunderland last time.

8.30-Heat 24
Trap 5 Pond Astronaut
Trap 2 Deanridge Vixen
Trap 1 Gandisranger

*A heat that should come accompanied with a first-aid kit. Pond Astronaut, trained by the legendary Harry Williams, has not shown himself quite yet. Trial form is gold. The 29.26sec clocking at Doncaster has only been bettered by top open racer Yorkshire.Got talent and may be able to prove here. In what may well be a messy race mid-track on the run -up to the bend.

8.45-Heat 25

Trap 1 Blonde Jeannie WON 6/4
Trap 2 Calzaghe Boyo
Trap 3 Love Forever

*Traffic stress..jams sounds like roadworks on the M1 well it may well be for the outside runners here.
The Inside berths the place to be in this heat.
Blonde Jeannie's set for the solo , boyo turn second Love Forever gets a run in third.
4 5 6 Ouch!

9.00-Heat 26

Trap 3 Farloe Black
Trap 2 Journey North
Trap 1 Bonville Podge WON 5/1

Frazer Blacks' Farloe Black can strengthen on his muscular 28.75secs trial time
as his quality Irish form stands out in this race.
Journey North holds solid enough form in minor open company
while Maxine Locke's trap one runner could get through for the bronze.

9.15-Heat 27
Trap 3 Westmeadm Joe
Trap 2 Cleenas Lady
Trap 1 Macniler

Last years Derby fourth Westmead Joe clashes with Derby fifth Cleenas Lady in this really tricky heat.
Nick Savva, the master of Hawk, was on record stating Westmead Joe's in better shape this time than last so that will do for me. Terry Dartnall's Cleenas Lady has been short of match practice but her racecard record is brimmed with star formlines and will be expected to be improve  100 per cent on comeback trials.
Macniler has nice enough speed up but may lack the principals class.

9.30-Heat 28
Trap 6 Rooster Nosey
Trap 1 Blonde Joey WON 12/1
Trap 2 Ballygarron Hope

Another ferocious contest that's top heavy with pace dogs mid to wide.
Flip the coin and I've come down on the side of Seamus' Rooster Nosey.
The black dogs'  two recent races at Wimbledon saw him from trap 5. He ran  Westmead Joe to a length in a trial stakes.
So with the stripes on his back tonight it could make all the difference to his chances. Good form prior to the Derby includes a beating of Cobra Striking at the Stow. While his Romford performances are also noted taking 3 from 4 at the London road track. There's more than a chance that untied shoes laces will cause a few of these to trip over them so Trap 1 and Trap 2 can avoid the fall-out and get a run.

9.45-Heat 29
Trap 4 Greenwell Storm
Trap 6 Roxholme Ryan
Trap 1 Killer Keane WON 6/1

*Just shades, a little stamp of  Westmead Hawk when Greenwell Storm came from out the clouds to win his Derby Trial Stakes last time.Pat Flahertys 2005 Irish Puppy Derby is now built for staying . He did well throughout the Ladbrokes 600 at Shelbourne reaching the semi finals in May. Pat will be hopeful that the black dog can go further than he did last year where he was a length away from getting into the semi finals.
Roxholme Ryan, a member of the classy yet forgotten dog parade, has been nursed back to health by the Keighley team.
The brindle dog has genuine sprinters pace, (17.60sec) 300m  Nottingham, and will get stronger as the event unfolds, ran third to Westmead Joe in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup final at Monmore last August. He just needs to qualify for the time being. Killer Keane may well scupper kennel mate Fear Robben for third spot.

10.00-Heat 30
Trap 3 Directors Chair WON 3/1
Trap 5 Zigzag Duchy
Trap 2 Droopys Robinho

*Mark Wallis has championed Directors Chair for a very long time now. The Walthamstow handler has waxed lyrical about his  two-year-old and to be fair the dog has star potential. He must show it tonight though as the dog next door is none other than Droopys Robinho. Zigzag Duchy can be brilliant on any given day (28.21secs Hall Green 480m) and has enough to qualify for Charlie Lister.

10.15-Heat 31

Trap 1 Forest Express
Trap 5 Greenfield Hero
Trap 6 Side Leg WON 1/2

*If your doing your brains time for a spectacular recovery with Forest Express.

Maxine Lockes brindle dog knuckled down really well when lifting The Maidens Derby Final at Walthamstow in the Racing Post Festival event last November. He has good pace and hearty stamina and looks value to surprise. Been laid out for the Derby and sniffs of a job dog waiting to happen. His trial form is modest but you would expect vast improvement on that.
Greenfield Hero can run a bit 28.66secs (475m Walthamstow) 25.95secs (430m Walthamstow). Hot and cold race form .
Side Leg has the best of the local form. The Wimbledon dog has the draw and has the clockings to boot but can he clear the five?
