Blue Square Greyhound Derby
3rd Round

8.00- Heat 1
                             Heat     Derby outright
1 Highbury Lao (m)    9-2              66-1
2 Blakes World (m)    25-1            400-1
3 Zigzag Dutchy (m)  5-1             66-1
4 Moving Charlie (m)  40-1           300-1
5 Eye Onthe Veto (w) 5-4            20-1
6 Dilemmas Flight (w)  5-1            66-1

Selections: 5-6-1

Eye Onthe Veto can maintain his unbeaten run in the Derby.
The Emerald Cup and Essex Vase champ has more than enough early boot to put this race to bed out of the first bend.
The draw is horrendous for the greyhounds drawn two through to four here so Dilemmas Flight can easily gain a pitch to chase the selection home in six.
The Oaks winner is only one of three bitches left in the tournamentand can ensure the fairer sex is represented in the next round.
Highbury Lao improved a bundle last week and can turn pretty much unscathed to give the Irish there first quarter-finalist.

8.15-Heat 2

1 Ullid Conor    11-4           25-1
2 Lenson Earl   25-1          200-1
3 Fear Me (m)  7-1            80-1
4 Astronomic (w) 8-1         80-1
5 Westmead Lord (w) 13-8  16-1
6 Alibulk Rocket (w)  6-1     50-1

Selections: 6-5-1

Westmead Lords' vunarability to a strong runner has been exposed in his two Derby defeats already. Nick Savvas' runner can once again dictate matters here but may well be out stayed close home. Alibulk Rocket (6-1 Ladbrokes) has what it takes to dent the favourites pride.
The Peterborough powerhouse has produced solid efforts so far including a smart 28.67sec. The fawn dog bounced back to winning ways in the 2nd round and has shown smart pace out the traps. So looks too big a price to ignore.  Ullid Conor beat Westmead Lord in the 1st round and is unbeaten in the tournament so far however he may struggle to gain a decent run into the bend in this race so may have to settle for third only.

8.30-Heat 3

1 Larkhill Jim  16-1          150-1
2 Express Ego 7-2            12-1
3 Farloe Jester 6-1           20-1
4 Phoenix Paddy(m)  6-4   11-2
5 Droopys Wells (w) 25-1  100-1
6 Loyal Honcho (w) 4-1     16-1

Selections: 4-1-2

The hype surrounding Phoenix Paddy pre-Derby was certainly justified when The Irish flyer produced the goods in the 2nd round when picking off Westmead Lord.
Ian Reilly trained black is more than capapble off  hitting the lids running and is taken to clear away from this out field out of the 1st turn.
Little doubt he must show high calibre speed to beat Express Ego here you might argue he needs to reproduce one of his best.
Larkhill Jim has done nothing wrong at Wimbledon since the start of the event last years semi finalist is obviously at home at the plough lane circuit.
He's up in the class in this heat but as his record proves he can handle it. The draw will  help his cause so he gets the nod to take second over Express Ego who he may chop off into the turn. Droopys Wells looks set for a tangle up with Loyal Honcho while Farloe Jester may struggle to pick up the top class dogs that will front him.

8.45-Heat 4

1 Farloe Premier   7-4   66-1
2 Manic Mile        10-1 100-1
3 Forest Scsholes 4-1   100-1
4 Allenbuild Flyer   33-1 500-1
5 Caulry Fast Trap (w) 9-2  150-1
6 Vacant

Selections: 1 Nap-3-5

I'd be very surprised if Farloe Premier went off anywhere near the 7-4 offered by VC Bet  come Saturday night.
Charlie Listers' black dog can resume winning ways from a great draw and smacks of nap material.
Forest Scholes makes most appeal for forecast punters. The Irish runner hasn't had any luck in the competition to date but I feel he'll get a run this time.
Caulry Fast Trap must be considered if only for being the only wide runner in this five-dog heat.

9.00-Heat 5

1 Savana Highlands  6-4   16-1
2 Directors Chair      5-1   50-1
3 Blonde Dino (m)     15-8 16-1
4 Congo Romeo (w)   33-1 250-1
5 Bens Court (w        14-1 150-1
6 Corleones Rammi (w) 16-1 150-1

Selections:3-1-2

Blonde Dino looked every bit a major Derby contender when coming through a tough task in his second round win.
The Midland Puppy Derby champion stretched out well to clock 28.63sec, his best so far,  and looks the call in a fascinating race with Savana Highlands.
Theres' little doubt the pressures on for Blonde Dino as Charlies' racer has excelled from trap one slots and again is blessed with the red vest.
But with the presence of Directors Chair in two helping the cause I reckon  Blonde Dino can use his pace to steal an early lead and make all.

9.15-Heat 6

1 Fine Plan                 20-1    500-1
2 Full Bloom                4-1      500-1
3 Ballymac Charley(m)  11-4     100-1
4 Hooter Macooter (w) 8-1      200-1
5 Kanes Blue (w)         4-1      100-1
6 Pilot Pretender (w)    4-1      150-1

Selections: 3-6-1

The Pall Mall winner Ballymac Charley can zip out the traps here and claim his second Derby heat win.
He may have been out sped versus Blonde Dino last time but I don't think he'll struggle to lead here.
Pilot Pretender produced a personal best last week and may be a slow burner. So take him to press for second along the back-straight.
Fine Plan may well be the last Wimbledon dog standing come the quarter-final draw. He may be out classed here but he's early pace and trap draw may secure third for Norah McEllistrim.

9.30-Heat 7

1 Tyrur Lee              7-2      200-1
2 Droopys Robinho     6-4     10-1
3 Nervous Woody (m) 6-1     66-1
4 Droopys Tobey (w) 14-1    125-1
5 Greenwell Storm (w)4-1     33-1
6 Swift Pirate (w)      33-1   200-1

Selections: 1 (n.b) -2- 5

Battle of the top Irish boys here. The odds for Tyrur Lee (7-2 Coral) stands out a mile.
The Newbridge Cox Cup winner has the position on the rails here to upset the favourite next door in trap 2.
Having failed to get a clear run last time the return to the red box is the crucial factor and can lead from the word go.
Greenwell Storm may benefit from crowding between kennel mates Nervous Woody and Droopys Tobey.

9.45-Heat 8

1 Blonde Jeannie       3-1  50-1
2 Calzaghe Boyo       50-1 500-1
3 Lenson Express      14-1 2001
4 Westmead Joe (m)  11-8 14-1
5 Pagoda Tarbert(w)  33-1 300-1
6 Greenwell Flash (w) 11/4 33-1

Selections 1-6-2

Westmead Joes' Derby is on the line here. Lenson Express may well fall into the favourites flight path here so last years finalist may well go out.
Blonde Jeannies' set to follow a clean route up the rails here and get the job done. Unbeaten in the event so far she can become the second bitch into the last 24 with Dilemmas Flight. Greenwell Storm has enough finishing kick to sweep late and fast for second whilst the two dog may hold a position on the inside to claim third at a massive price.
